What is Pinterest?
Pinterest is an online pinboard that relies heavily on images as a filing system. It is fully customizable, allowing the user to create their own categories, or boards, according to the user's interests, hobbies and line of work. Pins link back to the original source, so while each board looks like simple image storage; it is actually an intricate switchboard to bookmark sites. Pinterest is also a social media site, allowing users to share their boards and pins with others while at the same time searching and repining pins from other users. While the majority of pins are public, there is an option for up to three private boards. Pinterest can be accessed on any internet enabled device with apps available for tablets, phones and other portable electronics. It is a completely free service which adds to the appeal. Pinterest is a great organizational system that will simplify teachers’ lives and add to their Personal Learning Networks.
